Projects In Development
- I-89 and I-91 Fiber Project
- This project aims to improve the broadband infrastructure along Vermont highways, incorporating Fiber Optic cabling in the rights-of-way as a delivery mechanism for the ITS functions and applications. The cabling infrastructure will also be made available to private sector cellular and internet service providers to enhance rural connectivity throughout the state. The goal is to tie all of the ITS devices, such as road sensors, Variable Message Signs, Cameras, LPFM stations and Emergency Communications, together on one Fiber Optic backbone.
- ANR Online Public Records Project
- This project aims to provide online access to public records maintained by the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources. The goal is develop a fully functional electronic content management system (ECMS) for use by the public and agency staff serving the public.
The project will develop a repository system for public records – integrated into the ConnectVermont database architecture - which can be used for conducting search and research activities about facilities and sites under the Agency's oversight. The objectives are to design and deploy an electronic content management system (ECMS) comprised of imaging and document management subsystems, to define workflows for handling electronic and paper files, and to provide facilitated and information-laden access to these public records. - NRB Act 250 Online Project
- The project involves the consolidation of the Vermont Natural Resources Board (NRB) and Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) Act 250 databases into a new on-line, searchable database administered by NRB.
The project involves scanning all historical and current Act 250 case files to populate the document libraries in the database, and use of a document management system (Microsoft Sharepoint) to facilitate access to the database by state agency staff and the public.
NRB plans to consolidate the two databases with a new web-based interface that would allow for more efficient data entry by agency staff and provide the public with web access to a comprehensive repository of Act 250 applications and supporting documents. A major addition to the database will be a repository of scanned images of all historical ACT 250 files and a solution to manage the imaging of all new Act 250 files. When the project is completed, Act 250 staff, other state agencies, and the public will be able to view information in Act 250 files from any location and at any time using a web browser. - Dimensions of Marble - Vermont Marble Trail Project
- Dimensions of Marble brings together the history of marble quarries and workers, the communities in which they lived, and the artistry of sculptors past and present.
This project will catalogue the location of Vermont marble throughout the state - both in its natural form as well its use as medium for artistic expression. The project aims to create a Vermont Marble Trail that is integrated with the Vermont Travel Planner and the ConnectVermont database, offering the public facets of marble history throughout the state - such as marble buildings, monuments, foundations, sidewalks and houses - complete with GIS locators and travel information. - VT Historic Buildings Database Project
- This project, managed by the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation in partnership with ConnectVermont, aims to integrate extensive archived information about Vermont's historic buildings into the ConnectVermont database.
The final product will be a website with a searchable database of Vermont's historic buildings, complete with photos, GIS locators, architectural and historical context descriptions, travel information, mapping and itinerary planning. The data source has been compiled by the Division over the course of many decades, and the project aims to offer the collection in online form, creating a virtual trail of historic destinations to that can be enjoyed by travelers in Vermont.
- Vermont Civil War Homefront Website Project
- The Vermont Civil War Home Front website will be a comprehensive resource listing Civil War-related places in every town in Vermont, integrated with the ConnectVermont database and Vermont Travel planner. The project is managed by the Vermont Humanites Council.
Each Civil War homesite entry in the database will include the location of the site, a description of the site’s significance, and links to essays, PDFs, and other related searches.
VHC’s goal is to make the site accessible and interesting, allowing users to search by many criteria such as region, era, type of place, theme, person who lived there, or primary source. In addition, after finding a specific site, users will be presented with related links and searches so that they understand the thematic connections between sites, and are able to meander through and explore the site’s resources.
This data will be fully integrated with the Vermont Travel Planner, so that Civil War Home Front sites/locations that are available to the public are displayed in the Travel Planner, and searchable within the Vermont Travel Planner website. Events related to Civil War Home Front Sites will also be available in the Vermont Travel Planner event calendar. Users should also be able to view these locations on maps and find driving directions, and include on their itinerary. - Vermont Humanities Council Community Events Project
- This project, managed by the Vermont Humanities Council, aims to create a searchable online calendar of events the Council sponsors throughout Vermont.
The calendar will exist on the Vermont Humanities Council website, and will be fully integrated with the Vermont Travel Planner and the ConnectVermont architecture via web services technology. - Events Re-Enginering Project
- The goal of the Events Re-engineering Project is to redesign the entire process for events entry in the Vermont Travel Planner Events database, as well as changing the functional specifications to serve events content to ConnectVermont partner sites.
The ConnectVermont reusable platform elements will change in support of the new data model and application functionality. Specifically, the object model and components will be modified, Web Services may be added, and potentially other re-usable code elements will be added to support deployment across the ConnectVermont partnership.
The end result will streamline the events entry process for end-users - allowing for multiple events to be entered within a single session, for example - and will include a friendlier and fully accessible user interface. Consumers of events information will also enjoy enhanced searching and sorting capabilities. - Kiosk Re-engineering Project
- The Kiosk Re-engineering Project aims to redesign the state's electronic travel information kiosks, which are in use at Vermont Welcome & Information Centers. The project will implement a web-based traveler information portal solution to replace, enhance, and expand the statewide public kiosk system.
The solution, which will provide customizable interfaces based on a common set of templates, will allow statewide kiosks to be continually up-to-date and will enable rapid deployment of new kiosks in an unprecedented number of locations. The project also involves presenting data feeds of travel alerts from Vermont's 511 System on both the kiosks and the Vermont Travel Planner. - Reporting Architecture Project
- The Reporting Architecture project involves enhancing ConnectVermont's existing statistical reporting tools to track usage of the Vermont Travel Planner and electronic travel information kiosks.
- VBAN Re-engineering Project
- This project aims to update the Vermont Business Registry to improve its usability and graphical interface, and to build a GIS layer into the application so that users can more easily enter and retrieve location & mapping information for all types of entities doing business in Vermont, including traditional for-profit businesses as well as non-profit organizations and sole proprietors.
